Fingerstyle Guitarist Bill Mize

Applauded by critics and guitar enthusiasts alike for his composition, tone, emotion and smooth "multi-part" style, Tennessee composer Bill Mize is a guitarist’s guitarist that appears on many “top” lists worldwide.   A past winner of The Winfield National Finger-style Guitar Competition at The Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, Bill is often recognized for his understated virtuosity, creative arrangements and memorable compositions.   

Bill received a GRAMMY Award for his guitar arrangements and performances in a collaboration with David Holt on the recording Stellaluna, and has been featured on  popular guitar compilations  such as the "Windham Hill Guitar Sampler" by Windham Hill Records and "Masters of the Acoustic Guitar" by Narada Records. John August Music/Mel Bay Productions transcribed Mize's second CD, Tender Explorations, into a guitar tab book, and Acoustic Guitar and Fingerstyle Guitar magazines have transcribed some of his compositions for feature articles.  Recently, Bill’s music was featured in Ken Burns’ documentary “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea” on PBS.

Bill is a clinician / performer at many guitar festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival’s Guitar Weekend, the Healdsburg Guitar Festival in California, the Newport Guitar Festival in RI, Swannanoa Gathering in North Carolina, and the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Festival in Tennessee.

Besides the Windham Hill and Narada recordings, Bill has five independent releases available, Sugarlands, Tender Explorations, Coastin', Joyful Noise and his recently released The Angel’s Share, chosen by Acoustic Guitar Magazine as an “Essential CD of 2010”.
